This website (psolimine.net) is the personal academic site of Philip Solimine. This page explains what data the site collects and why.

What is collected

Server access logs. Like virtually every website, this site records standard request metadata for each visit. This is handled at the hosting/edge layer and includes:

  • your IP address,
  • your browser's user-agent string,
  • the page or file you requested and the referring URL (if any),
  • your browser's language preference,
  • an approximate location (country/region/city) derived from your IP,
  • the date and time of the request.

This information is sent automatically by your browser with every HTTP request. Collecting it does not place any cookie or script on your device.

Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate readership (which pages are read, roughly where visitors come from). Google Analytics sets cookies and processes usage data on Google's infrastructure. You can opt out using Google's browser add-on or by blocking analytics cookies.

Why it is collected

  • Operating and securing the site — detecting and mitigating abusive or automated traffic (bots, scrapers, scanners) and diagnosing problems.
  • Understanding readership — basic, aggregate insight into which research and teaching materials are useful.

Under the EU/UK GDPR, the lawful basis for access logging and basic analytics is legitimate interest in running and protecting the site.

Who processes it

  • Netlify hosts the site and processes requests (incl. access logs).
  • Cloudflare may process requests for performance and bot/abuse mitigation.
  • A third-party logging provider may be used to store and analyze access logs for security and operational purposes.
  • Google processes analytics data.

Each operates under its own privacy policy.

Retention

Access logs are retained only as long as necessary for security and operational purposes. Analytics data is retained per the configured Google Analytics retention settings.

Your choices and rights

You can block cookies and analytics in your browser, and (for EU/UK/California residents, among others) you may have rights to access or request deletion of personal data associated with you. To make a request, contact me via the links on the About page.
